Facade Redesign At LaGuardia Community College
Long Island City, NY

The Center 3 building at LaGuardia Community Center has been distressed by a deteriorating exterior facade.  The original wood framed glazing and terracotta have reached the end of their useful life and are a constant cause of water infiltration throughout the building. Terracotta repairs have been ongoing. APA responded to an RFP for major façade redesign and rehabilitation of this building. In response to the RFP, various schematic options were prepared. The design takes cues from the character and vocabulary of the existing Center 3 building and adjoining structures towards the east side of Thomson Avenue.
