FUEL OIL TANK REPLACEMENT AND PLAZA RENOVATION AT LEHMAN COLLEGE
Bronx, NY

The Lehman College Music building located on the Bronx campus is a Collegiate Gothic designed cut stone building constructed circa 1930. A major addition was made to both the north and south sides of the building in the early 70’s which included a raised plaza connecting the Library, Theater and Gymnasium to the south and a major building addition connecting to the Music Building to the North. The project undertaken by APA involved a complete replacement of the original Fuel Oil Tanks structure located below the plaza level at the Speech & Theatre Building including the structural slab which needed to be redesigned with additional reinforcement and replaced. The project also involved a complete replacement of the entire plaza wrapping around the Speech & Theatre Building and the Music Building totaling about 35,000 SFT. This also included replacement of the main entrance steps to the Music Building including providing ADA access into the building to make the entrance code compliant.
