Combined Facade Restoration and Roof Replacement At North Academic Center Building
CCNY, NY

The project scope included renovation of brick and granite faced facades of this 1.5 million sq. ft. building occupying three city blocks located along Amsterdam Avenue. The Building has inherent problems related to use of glazed bricks and deficient structure for support of granite cladding. As a part of the Combined Facade Restoration Project, the entire building was surveyed and supports for brick and granite were repaired/replaced. The facade of this building underwent extensive repairs of cracked mortar, spalled and dislocated bricks at the relieving angles.  At the Plaza level, all parapet walls needed to be dismantled, re-flashed, reconstructed, re-caulked and re-pointed to correct the damaged areas.  In addition, approx. 140,000 sq ft of roofs were replaced, two major skylights were reconstructed and one of the stairwells needed to be extended from the eighth floor to the ninth floor and roof to meet New York City codes.
