Matteson Public Library
Matteson, Illinois

The Library entrance canopy, vestibule and central desk are laid out as a procession of spaces, forming the spine. The reading room and reference area are on one side and the administration space, public meeting rooms and service area are on the other. The central desk is topped with a steeple-like structure which provides natural light to the interior and vertical design element on the exterior which serves as a marker and identifying feature in its calm and low surroundings. A row of trees shields the library’s parking lot and doubles as an aesthetic complement to the park. The circulation and non-circulation books will be shelved in one large room. The children’s reading room is located at the north end of the building which receives the soft north light.
