Skylight Replacement At North Academic Center Building
City College Of New York, NY

The main library located on the second floor of this building is laid out around a rectangular atrium space measuring 125 ft by 20 ft.  This atrium space is covered with a clear glass Skylight measuring about 4000 sq. ft. in area, which runs east west and slopes, one way in its short direction facing south.  At it’s apex the Skylight is about 113 feet above the library floor.  Water had been leaking from the Skylight on to the floor below and had caused severe damage to the gypsum board along the atrium walls and soffits/ceilings at the second floor.  At two places along the top of the south wall, the deteriorated gypsum board was in imminent danger of dislodging.  Replacement of the existing skylight was undertaken to remedy this condition which included rehabilitation of the damaged atrium space as well.
