Renovation   And Expansion of Ocean Hill Community Center
Brooklyn, NY

The existing 2000 sq. ft. facility with no distinct identity of its own is presently located on the first floor of the apartment tower facing MacDougal Street and Broadway. The proposed 5000 sq. ft. centrally air-conditioned, ADA compliant, expanded facility enjoys the prominent corner site, visible from the elevated train running along Broadway. The corner location for the new building has been fully exploited with the use of angular geometry responding to the site configuration. The dynamic sculptural building form featuring steeply pitched roofs will provide a constantly changing image of the building when viewed from the moving train as well as different vantage points from the street level. The exterior and interior treatment using square, colored glazed blocks and ground-faced masonry provides a very playful and cheerful interior and exterior environment.
